It is against the federal law to discriminate in housing because of:
Race or color
Sexual orientation (within Tippecanoe County)
The following is a partial list of actions forbidden based on the above mentioned status:
Refuse to rent housing
Make housing unavailable
Deny a dwelling
Set different terms, conditions or privileges for rental of a dwelling
Provide different housing services or facilities
Falsely deny that housing is available for inspection or rental
Deny anyone access to or membership in a facility or service related to the rental of housing
Filing a Complaint
If you believe you have been the victim of discrimination and wish to file a complaint, you have a few options to consider:
You may file a complaint with the City of Lafayette Human Relations Commission.
You may file a complaint with the Indiana Civil Rights Commission.
You may file a complaint with the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.
