June 26th, 2017

In the early morning hours of June 26th, around 3:00am, Lafayette Police responded to the report of a large fight at Champs Bar on South Earl Avenue.  Officers heard gunshots as they arrived in the area.  Witnesses identified a white Pontiac Grand Prix as being involved in the fight and shooting incident.  The vehicle reportedly fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

A short time later officers located a white Pontiac Grand Prix crashed at the corner of Ward Street and Columbia Street.  The driver of the vehicle had struck a large tree.  It is believed the Pontiac crashed as it travelled at a high rate of speed westbound on Ferry Street.  The sole occupant in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was later identified as 32-year-old Ronald B. Martin.

Several subjects received minor injuries during the large fight at Champs.  At least one person sought treatment at a local hospital.  The investigation is ongoing.

The Lafayette Police Department asks that anyone with any further information about this investigation please contact the Lafayette Police at 765-807-1200 or the anonymous We-Tip Hotline at 800-78-CRIME.
