Updated Sagamore Pkwy and South St Closure Information

Sagamore Pky South St U Turn

Update: In response to some of the questions and comments I received after I sent out the my initial post, I wanted to provide you with some additional information. The businesses in around that Sagamore Pkwy & South Street intersection will be open for business and can be accessed by utilizing the U-Turn areas. Those U-turns are shown on the attached map. Be sure to follow posted signs and signals when trying to access these areas.

I know the attached detour map is a little small and difficult to read on mobile devices; please see the full-sized version at restoresagamore.com. We also plan to post it on the LPD's website at http://lafayettepolice.us (scroll down to "NEWS").

Kossuth Street is scheduled to be open by the time Sagamore & South is closed. Also, we were informed today that the process to close Sagamore and South will be begin much earlier than previously posted. Expect a complete, or nearly complete, closure by 7:00 am Monday morning.

Remember: Make your plans ahead of time, be patient, and get connected by signing up for Nixle alerts and following us on Twitter. Thanks, wjc

On Monday, July 17, the intersection at Sagamore Pkwy and South Street will close for construction.

The process to close the intersection starts at approximately 7:00 am, with a full shutdown by the afternoon. The closure is expected to last 28-days. Intersection improvements are being made as part of the Restore Sagamore construction project. The closure of this intersection is going to be a significant disruption to the traffic flow in and around the area. If you normally drive in and around this intersection, expect congestion and delays. We encourage everyone to find an alternate route, allow more time to travel, and practice patience.

Please see the attached detour map and familiarize yourself with it. We expect congestion and delays along the detour routes; if you can find a safe route around the affected area that does not include the detour, please do so. We are in the process of contacting local businesses and factories to make sure they understand the impact that this closure will have and give them information that will allow them to plan accordingly.

The Lafayette Police Traffic Unit will be in the area for increased enforcement. We will be looking for aggressive drivers, speeders, and those disobeying the posted signs.

By now, many of us are accustomed to the Restore Sagamore construction project and the inconvenience that these delays can cause. You can reduce the impact that has on you and your family by taking the appropriate steps now. We will try to update you with posts on Next Door, as well as Nixle and Twitter. You can also get detour maps, construction information, and updates by going to http://www.restoresagamore.com/
