Lafayette Police Robbery Investigation

On November 23, 2018 at approximately 5:30pm, Lafayette Police were called to 501 S. 16th street for a report of an armed robbery. The victim was identified as 26 year old Daniel Lawrence who explained to officers that he and a friend had been shopping at the Tippecanoe mall. Upon returning to his friend’s house on S. 16th street, they both exited the car and he was confronted by a tall male wearing dark clothing with a white t-shirt over his face with holes cut out for his eyes. The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded personal items from Mr. Lawrence. The friend with Mr. Lawrence was identified as 35 year old Martell Bernard Fowler. Mr. Fowler was not a victim of the robbery and neither men were injured. The suspect was seen running from the area and was not located by police.

Further investigation by the Lafayette Police Departments Patrol division resulted in leads that assisted the Detective division with solving this case. It was discovered that some of the clothing taken from Mr. Lawrence in the robbery had been returned to a store at the Tippecanoe Mall. The investigation resulted in the arrest of 23 year old Camaris Antwon Slater along with Mr. Martell Fowler. Both men were arrested for Robbery and booked in to the Tippecanoe County Jail. This was not a case of random violence and the investigation is ongoing.

Camaris Slater was arrested for: Robbery While Armed with a Firearm, Intimidation w/use Of a Deadly Weapon, Possession of Marijuana, & Possession of Paraphernalia.

Martell Fowler was arrested for: Robbery While Armed with a Firearm & Possession of Marijuana.
