Cindy Murray was elected City Clerk in November 2003 and began her first term as City Clerk January 1, 2004. Mayor Tony Roswarski appointed Cindy to serve on the Board of Public Works and Safety on January 1, 2004.

Cindy currently is a member of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, Past United Way Board President for 2008-2009, Chairman of the United Way Campaign for 2010, YMCA Board Member,Traffic Commission, Parking Commission, Christmas Parade Committee, Lafayette Hearing Authority,Board member of Homestead Consulting Board, Joint Purchasing Board, The Chamber,Census 2010 Committee,Ivy Tech-Diversity Committee, Intersection Connection Campaign Cabinet, Kiwanis, member of the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers, Advisor to the Mayor's Youth Council.

The City Clerk is elected every four years, along with the Mayor and City Council Members.

The City Clerk and the Clerk's two appointed deputies are responsible for maintaining the official Record of the Common Council, the Board of Public Works and Safety, and the Lafayette City Code.

As Clerk of the Common Council the City Clerk has the responsibility to:

Keep records of council proceedings and have charge of all papers relating to its business; to Prepare and keep an ordinance book; have charge of all documents and books entrusted to the City Clerk by statute or ordinance; and keep the city seal.

The City Clerk's Office in Lafayette also has the responsibility to:

Provide copies of documents that are maintained in the City Clerk's office upon request
Conducting all Police and City Auctions
Collect all money associated with Building Permits - Electrical Permits - Sign Permits - Sewer Permits Water Tap Fees
Access Permits - Zoning Variances
Sewer Seal Permits
All other permits issued by the Engineer's Office requiring a fee
City issued parking tickets
Ordinance Violations Bureau fines
Pet Registration and Licensing
The City Clerk may also officiate at weddings
