Junior Zookeeper (JZK) Program
The Junior Zookeeper (JZK) program is designed for students ages 14-17 who have a desire to learn about how zoos care for and maintain their animal collections. Students will learn and develop the skills needed to pursue a career in animal care by assisting qualified staff in the daily husbandry needs of the animals. As a structured volunteer program, JZK participants will be trained on certain tasks that they will assist with during the duration of the summer. Students will be assigned a summer schedule outlining their work hours and will be able to participate in many of the tasks that provide a service to zoo patrons.

In order to participate in the 2010 JZK program, an individual must be between 14 and 17 years of age on June 1, 2010. Students who turn 18 during the course of the summer are permitted to apply. Students who are already 18 years of age or greater on June 1, 2010 are not eligible to participate in the JZK program, but may apply to our adult volunteer program.
Acceptance into the JZK program is competitive. JZK applications will be reviewed only if all materials are submitted by the application deadline. Not all applicants are guaranteed an interview.
The deadline for 2010 JZK Applications has passed. Please be sure to apply next year!
The application form, essay, and two recommendation forms are due as a packet. You may submit your application paperwork in person at the Columbian Park Zoo office, or by mail at the following address:
